Loose Motion or Diarrhea:
Loose motion (diarrhea or dast) is a common health problem which can affect people of any age group. Main symptom of Diarrhea is abnormally loose or watery loose motion. Other symptoms of diarrhea are loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, abdominal cramps and in some cases fever also.
As far as, causes of loose motion are concerned, bacterial or viral infection is the main cause of this health problem. Other causes are food poisoning, malnutrition, allergy to certain food, laxative abuse, due to certain diseases and medication, hyperthyroidism, radiation or chemotherapy, intestinal parasites and certain intestinal diseases.
The frequency of loose motion may vary in different cases. Normally, it is cured within one or two days but in some cases, it may be persistent or chronic. As a thumb rule one should not take any medication for loose motion unless they are severe. These loose motions can be treated by applying some natural remedies effectively.
Natural Remedies to Cure Loose Motion:
1. Ginger juice for Loose Motion:
Ginger (adrak) is a wonderful spice which has many medicinal properties. If you are suffering from watery loose motion (dast), take half cup hot (full boiled) water and add one spoon ginger juice in it and drink as much hot as you can. Repeat it every one hour; though it is very simple remedy but shows excellent results.
2. Terminalia Chebula (Chhoti Harad):
Terminalia chebula, a medicinal herb, is very good to cure loose motion. Take one Harad (also called black Chebulic Myrobalan) and chew it only like a toffee; your loose motion will be controlled immediately.
If it is not controlled, use it with Indian gooseberry (amla):-
- Grind 10 gm harad and 20 gm amla chunks to make fine powder.
- Ingest 1 gm of this powder with honey or directly with water twice a day.
- You will get complete relief in 3-4 dosages.
Or you can take Terminalia chebula with Piper Longum (pipali) too. Simply, grind harad and pipali (10 gm each) to make fine powder and keep it into a jar. Whenever you have loose motion, ingest 1 gm of this powder with water after lunch and dinner.
3. Nutmeg for Loose Motion :
Simply, rub a nutmeg with some water on a clean and rough surface. It became brownish paste; collect the paste in a spoon and consume with a cup of water. Nutmeg can be given to small children too for curing diarrhea but the dosage should be less (managed according to age of the child).
4. Mint Leaves for Loose Motion:
Mint leaves have antibacterial properties and are very effective in controlling loose motion, especially due to indigestion.
- Simply, crush some mint leaves and extract its juice with the help of a thin cotton cloth.
- Then, mix 1 tbsp of lemon juice, 1 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp of mint leaves juice and consume.
- Take the mixture twice a day for 2-3 days regularly or till required.
5. Cinnamon for Diarrhea:
Cinnamon has antimicrobial properties that help in destroying harmful bacteria in intestine. Mix half teaspoon cinnamon powder and 1 tsp honey in a cup of warm water. Stir it well and consume 2-3 times in a day; continue this remedy 2-3 days or as required.
6. Raw Papaya for Loose Motion:
Papaya (papita) is an excellent fruit that is full of health benefits whether it is in raw form or ripe. Raw papaya soup can treat loose motion and stomach cramps (marod). To make raw papaya soup, –
- At first, peel a small size of papaya and remove the seeds.
- Then grate it with the help of grater and boil into 3 cups of water for 10 minutes.
- Now, strain the soup into a cup and drink lukewarm thrice a day.
- Repeat the dosage for 2-3 days or till getting complete relief from loose motion.
7. Fenugreek Seeds or Methi:
To control loose motion, grind some fenugreek seeds and make fine powder. Take 1 tsp of this powder and dissolve it into a glass of water; drink it in the morning on an empty stomach regularly for 2-3 days.
8. Bitter Gourd Juice:
Bitter gourd (karela) is a good natural medicine of loose motion. Extract the juice of one bitter gourd with the help of juicer and drink. If you have not juicer, grind it after cutting into small pieces and extract the juice with the help of cotton cloth. Take this juice two times in a day and continue till required.
9. Rind of Pomegranate:
Dry rind (peel) of Pomegranate (anar) is one of the most effective natural remedy against loose motion. Dry the rind of pomegranate in shade and store into a jar for use whenever needed. Put 3-4 pieces of this dry rind of pomegranate in a cup of water and boil without covering the lid of pan till it reduces to half. Let it to be cool and sieve it into a cup. Add some rock sugar (mishri) before consuming.
10. Black Tea for Loose Motion:
To control loose motion, drink strong black tea (kali chai) with 3-4 drops of lemon juice and a pinch of black salt. You have to drink black tea without sugar. It is very popular and safe home remedy that gives amazing results.
11. Bottle Gourd Juice:
Bottle gourd juice is an excellent natural remedy for the people suffering from loose motion or diarrhea. It helps to prevent the body from getting dehydrated.
For making juice of bottle gourd (lauki), take a fresh bottle gourd, peel it and cut into small vertical pieces. And then extract the juice with the help of juicer. If you have not juicer, cut the bottle gourd in small pieces and put into blender to mash thoroughly. Or you can grate the bottle gourd and squeeze out the juice with a help of thin cloth. Drink one cup juice twice a day.
12. Dry Ginger for Loose Motion:
Dry ginger (sonth) and curd (dahi) both are good for stomach problems. To control loose motion, mix ¼ tbsp of dry ginger powder in 1 tbsp of curd and ingest; you will get relief in a single dosage. If not controlled, take one more dosage after 2-3 hours. Loose motion will be cured definitely.
13. Dry Coriander Powder:
Coriander (dhania) has cooling properties; it can control even bloody or tarry stool without any medicine. Therefore, if blood comes with stool in dysentery, take 10 gm dry coriander Powder & 10 gm mishri. Then mix it into half cup of water and drink. You will get relief in a day but repeat the dosage regularly for 3-5 days.
If you have habit of defecation (going to toilet) after eating food every time, take 2 gm of dry coriander powder (dhania) and a pinch of black salt with little water after meal. This is an excellent natural remedy that will definitely improve habit of going to toilet after eating food every time. You have to take it regularly at least for 3-4 weeks.
14. Green Coriander for Diarrhoea:
To get rid of loose motion due to heat, green coriander leaves’ home remedy is the best. Grind 100 gm of coriander leaves (hara dhania) after cleaning with water. Now, dissolve this paste into one cup of water and drink. You can repeat it for 2-3 times in a day. It controls loose motion immediately but better to continue for 2-3 days.
15. Roasted Fennel Seeds for Diarrhea:
Fennel seed (saunf) is an aromatic herb which is traditionally used for curing stomach related health problems. Use of roasted fennel seeds together with mishri powder is very effective in dysentery and stomach cramps (marod).
At first, roast some fennel seeds slightly and make fine powder. Then, mix equal quantity of rock sugar powder in it and keep it into a jar. Now, consume two tsp of this powder four times a day with a little amount of water (2-3 spoons).
16. Drumstick Leaves:
Drumstick (sehjan) has antioxidants and antimicrobial properties; it is good for upset stomach. To control loose motion, simply collect some leaves of drumstick and crush them to extract juice. Then, mix 1 tsp juice of drumstick leaves with one spoon honey and consume immediately.
