Constipation or ‘kabz’ is a very common problem. Constipation means difficulty in passing in stool, hard stool or a sense of incomplete emptying of bowel. Because of modern lifestyle and wrong eating habits, it became a common health problem even among kids and youngsters. Modern sedentary lifestyle affects the bowel movement of the body and that results in constipation or kabz . Constipation or kabz leads to many other problems also. If the stomach is not cleared well, it may cause problem of headache, gas, flatulence etc.
The common symptoms of constipation or kabz are irritability, uneasiness, mood swings, lack of interest in work and embarrassment. Other symptoms are infrequent bowel movements, hard or small stool, loss of appetite, discomfort and stomach pain. If the problem is severe, then there is also abdominal swelling, nausea, and vomiting etc.
Main causes of constipation or kabz are inactive or sedentary lifestyle, wrong eating habits, insufficient water intake, side effects of some diseases and medicine. Furthermore, wrong water drinking habits such as- drinking insufficient water (less than 8 glasses) or drinking water immediately after meal- may affect the performance of digestive track. Home Remedies of Constipation or Kabz
1.Lemon juice to Cure Constipation:
To cure constipation (kabz), lemon juice (nimbu) and honey is a good natural home remedy. First of all, take a glass of warm water with the juice of 1/2 lemon and 1 tsp honey (shahad) after waking up in the morning daily. And then drink at least one litre of water first daily. It helps in bowel movement.
2. Dates (khajoor) for Kabz:
Dates or khajoor are a type of sweet fruits that grow on palm trees. Khajoor have high level of soluble fiber that promote healthy bowel movement. Soak 6-8 dates (khajoor) in a cup of water overnight and eat them empty stomach in the morning. It gives a laxative impact and also helps to relieve constipation ( kabz).
3. Grapes (angoor) for Constipation:
Eating fruit like grapes is good for constipation (kabz) because grapes are high in water content and also contain fiber. Because of these properties, consumption of grapes helps to keep you hydrated and to make the bowel movement regular.
To get rid of constipation ( kabz), consume 250-300 gm fresh grapes or angoor daily during grapes season. During off season, eat raisin or kishmish instead of grapes. Soak 12-15 raisins (kishmish) in water for 1-2 hours and have them with the water (in which they are soaked).
4. Triphla Churna to Cure Kabz:
Triphla churna is an herbal powder which has components of three plants – amla (Indian gooseberry), harad (Black Chebulic Myrobalan) and baheda (Terminalia Belerica). These three plants have many medicinal properties and also effective to cure constipation or kabz. If you have constipation, ingest triphla churna with warm water daily at night for some days. It is a great laxative and helps to regulate bowel movements.
- Take 2-5 gm of triphla powder with warm water at night.
- Another way of taking triphla churna is mixing with honey either before going to sleep or in the morning on an empty stomach.
- But if the problem is severe, take 2 tsp of triphla powder mixing with 200 ml of warm water and drink at night before going to sleep. And do not take anything after it; only water can be taken after half an hour.
- Triphla powder with Isabgol (Psyllium) may also cure chronic constipation. Take 2-5 gm triphla powder mixing with 1-2 spoons Isabgol dust at evening daily.
Triphla is an excellent home remedy of constipation ( kabz) and the best thing about it is that it is not habit forming like other laxatives.
How to make Triphla Powder:
Though triphla powder remains available in market, you can also make it at home.
Harad 25 gm
Amla chunks 25 gm
Baheda 25 gm
- Collect all the ingredients and remove seed (guthli) of baheda before grinding.
- Then grind all the three ingredients one by one to make fine powder.
- Sieve them with a thin cotton cloth and mix well.
- Triphla powder is ready to use; keep it into a air tight jar.
5. Guavas (amrood) for Kabz or Constipation:
Guava or amrood is a type of fruit which is one of the richest sources of dietary fiber. It is a tropical fruit and cheap too. Guava has soluble fiber in the pulp and insoluble fiber in the seeds. Fiber adds bulk to the stool and makes it smooth to pass it out from the body. Therefore, eat guava or amrood daily after lunch in afternoon to get rid of constipation. Remember, avoid eating unripe or overripe gauva and not to chew seeds of guava. Seeds of guava may be harmful for some health problems.
6. Spinach (Palak) for Kabz:
Spinach or palak is a green leafy vegetable which is high in water and fiber content. These contents of spinach help to clear out the intestines and to regulate bowel movement. It is an excellent intestinal tract cleanser. So, include spinach or palak in your daily diet if you often have constipation or kabz. You can eat spinach as salad or drink soup of spinach. Ingesting juice of spinach with equal amount of water (half cup palak juice and half cup water) twice daily may also help to cure constipation (kabz) naturally.
Kidney patients should consult doctor before taking spinach as a source of fiber. Otherwise it is a good natural remedy of constipation.
7. Honey to Cure Kabz:
Honey (shahad) is a good natural remedy of constipation or kabz. It is a natural laxative. Honey contains moisturizing properties that helps in bowel movement. Take one tbsp of honey mixing with a glass of warm water at night before going to sleep daily. After a regular use of some time, constipation (kabz) will be cured completely. It is a safe natural remedy that has no side effect.
8. Flax Seeds (Alsi) for Kabz:
Flax seeds or alsi are also rich in fiber and help to get rid of constipation ( kabz) naturally. Take 2 spoon flax seeds powder with milk or water at night; it is a good home remedy and has no side effect. Flax seeds (alsi) are also an excellent source of Omega-3. So include it in your daily diet for a healthy life.
Another way of using flax seeds is by soaking them into water. Firstly, you roast flax seeds (alsi) slightly and then grind to make powder. Now soak 20 gm of flax seeds powder into a glass of water for 3-4 hours. After that sieve the powder into a glass and drink it. It helps to regulate bowel movement and cures constipation ( kabz).
9. Juice of Cabbage (Patta Gobhi) for Constipation:
Cabbage is extremely rich in fiber and very helpful in relieving constipation. Take half cup juice of cabbage (patta gobhi) twice a day if you often have constipation ( kabz). It helps in bowel movement.
10. Milk with Ghee:
Milk with ghee is a natural laxative. If you have constipation (kabz), take a glass of warm milk with one spoon ghee and half spoon turmeric powder before going to sleep. It cleanses intestinal tract and regulate bowel movement.
